Gender Equality, Nationality Laws and Statelessness 2015

Nationality laws which do not grant women equality with men in conferring nationality to their children are a cause of statelessness and a concern for UNHCR under its mandate to prevent and reduce statelessness. Each year since 2012, UNHCR has issued an annual background note on gender equality in nationality laws relating to conferral of nationality to children. This Background Note provides the most up-to date information available to the UNHCR as of 6 April 2015.

Research on access to socio-economic rights for Roma women in Serbia

Extract from the report: The purpose of the research on access to socio-economic rights for Roma women, conducted by Praxis, is to provide information on Roma women’s access to the rights to health, education, employment, social assistance and information on housing conditions. The research also deals with gender perspective, examining the situation of women compared to men in the same community. It was conducted in ten municipalities in southern Serbia: Aleksinac, Prokuplje, Bojnik, Bor, Kuršumlija, Lebane, Leskovac, Bela Palanka, Kruševac and Knjaževac in the period February-August 2015.

Address from the President of Madagascar's National Assembly on Reforming Madagascar's Nationality Law

Address from the President of Madagascar's National Assembly concerning the reform of Madagascar's Nationality Law which discriminates against women in the ability to transfer citizenship onto their children. The address was given during an Assembly session from 3 - 4 November, after the Equal Rights Trust and partners including the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Focus Development Association and the Global Campaign for Equal Nationality Rights advocated on the necessity of reform.
