Today, The Equal Rights Trust published Volume Nine of The Equal Rights Review (ERR), an interdisciplinary biannual journal intended as a forum for the exchange of legal, philosophical, sociological and other ideas and practical insights for those who are promoting equality.
Detention Guidelines Available Online

The Equal Rights Trust Guidelines to Protect Stateless Persons from Arbitrary Detention are now available online. The Guidelines provide detailed guidance on how states should treat stateless persons in the context of immigration detention in order to comply with their obligations under international human rights law, in particular the rights to equality and non-discrimination and the right to be free from arbitrary detention.

Joint Initiative to Address Statelessness in Europe Launched

The Equal Rights Trust (ERT) is a founding member of the European Network on Statelessness (ENS) - a network of non-governmental organisations, academic initiatives, and individual experts committed to address statelessness in Europe. The Network officially launched on Friday, 8 June 2012, and is open to non-governmental organisations, research centres, academics and other individuals. ERT’s Head of Statelessness and Nationality Projects, Amal de Chickera, is a steering committee member and focal point for law and policy activities of the ENS.

ERT Publishes In the Spirit of Harambee: Addressing Discrimination and Inequality in Kenya

Today, The Equal Rights Trust (ERT), in partnership with the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC), published In the Spirit of Harambee: Addressing Discrimination and Inequality in Kenya. The country report, which is the result of ERT’s three year long partnership with KHRC, is the first ever comprehensive account of discrimination and inequalities on all grounds and in all areas of life in Kenya. It is based on extensive field research and makes a set of recommendations.

This issue contains a special section on immigration detention and discrimination, as well as an interview on the same issue with Wilder Tayler, Secretary-General of the International Commission of Jurists and an expert on the UN Sub-Committee on the Prevention of Torture, and Professor Mads Andenas, Professor of Law at the University of Oslo and a member of the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention.
