The Equal Rights Trust is working with the Secretariat of the Pacific Community to strengthen civil society responses to persistent gender based violence and other forms of discrimination against women.
| Solomon Islands has one of the highest rates of gender-based violence in the world. Our work is focused on understanding the discriminatory causes and consequences of violence against women, among other patterns of discrimination. |
- Undertaking advocacy which led the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women to express serious concerns at the absence of comprehensive equality law in Solomon Islands;
- Producing the first comprehensive report on discrimination and inequality on Solomon Islands, combining expert analysis of legislation with testimony from across the country;
- Providing training to increase the capacity of human rights defenders to document violence against women and other forms of discrimination.
