Our work in Malaysia is focused on promoting legal reform on equality and non-discrimination in the country. Malaysia is also one of the countries where we work on the rights of stateless Rohingya, an ethno-religious minority from Myanmar.
Highlights of our achievements to date include:
- Publishing a comprehensive country report entitled Washing the Tigers: Addressing Discrimination and Inequality in Malaysia – and securing significant public interest in equality law reform as a result;
- Publishing two reports exposing the appalling treatment of the Rohingya in Malaysia, and the collusion between Malaysian immigration officials and human traffickers;
- Supporting strategic litigation seeking protection from discrimination for the Mak Nyah transgender community, on the basis of their gender identity.
