Sue Ashtiany is Partner and Head of the Employment team at the London-based law firm Nabarro, which she joined in 2001. She has a wealth of experience advising on the full range of employment issues. Her work predominantly consists of large-scale or complex projects, in particular change management projects; cases involving difficult issues of employment and discrimination law and policy; and strategic advice for employers in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors.
Sue Ashtiany is ranked as a leading individual in Chambers (2007 edition), where she is cited as “standing out for her stupendous knowledge of the law” and being “very much ahead of the game” with clients praising her highly prized insightful thinking. She is also ranked in the top tier by Legal 500 (2006 edition), where clients praise her for 'invaluable knowledge of our policies and culture, gained through excellent relationships with the team'; and for bringing 'a wealth of experience from both the commercial and public sectors'. She has previously been a Commissioner for the Equal Opportunities Commission (1999-2007), a Member of the Advisory Group for Oxford Brookes Centre for Diversity Policy Research. In 2008, Sue Ashtiany was the co-winner of the ‘Professional of the Year’ award, in the prestigious Asian Women of Achievement Awards recognising Asian women in the UK. She has written and published extensively on issues of discrimination law and positive action. She has also made a contribution to the understanding of migrant and refugee issues as a UK refugee counsellor appointed by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees. She is member of the Board of Channel 4 and the Oxford Piano Festival.
