Finance Manager – Full Time
The Equal Rights Trust (the Trust) is the global centre of excellence on equality law. We are an independent international organization whose mission is to eliminate discrimination and ensure everyone can participate in society on an equal basis. We work in partnership with equality defenders to secure the adoption and implementation of equality laws.
We are seeking a Finance Manager to join our small friendly team. Reporting to the Head of Operations, the post holder will be responsible for the Trust’s Financial Management System. This includes the Trust’s project and donor reporting processes, year-end statutory reporting processes, and day to day financial management. We are looking for a capable, motivated individual who is able to work independently.
- Preparing project finance reports on a quarterly basis to support effective management of budgets
- Preparing donor financial reports & payment requests in line with our donor contracts
- Supporting the Head of Operations to ensure fulfilment of donor financial requirements and ensuring systems and controls are in place to accommodate them
- Ensuring partner reporting to the Trust is up to date; reviewing these reports to ensure they are complete, accurate and compliant with ERT and donor requirements; and ensuring the partner reporting database is kept up to date
- Ensuring that transfers of partner funds are processed on a timely basis, maintaining accurate partner control accounts, and resolving financial queries around partner transactions and balances
- Acting as a finance business partner to project teams by providing ad-hoc financial information on budgets, to support effective and efficient delivery of projects
- Supporting project staff with reforecasting and other financial tasks
- Supporting project teams in developing budgets for fundraising bids, and support with budget amendments and reallocations for existing projects
- Taking the lead on project audits, ensuring the Trust has effective systems in place to retain and produce adequate supporting documentation to satisfy auditors
- Ensuring that the Trust’s bookkeeping (QuickBooks) is accurate, complete and up to date, including income, expenditure, accounts receivable and accounts payable
- Performing monthly reconciliations of cash, bank, payroll and other balance sheet accounts to ensure accuracy in the Trust’s financial records
- Undertaking regular review and maintenance of the nominal ledger chart of accounts and the project ledger chart of accounts
- Managing the cash position of the Trust through effective forecasting on a quarterly basis and actively managing the cash position
- Preparing payment requests, processing invoices and dealing with supplier queries in a timely manner, with the support of the bookkeeper/team administrator
- Managing payroll and pension payments
- Maintaining a fixed asset register including depreciation
- Administrating petty cash, advances and staff reimbursement claims
- Leading the annual audit process and working closely with the Head of Operations to produce the statutory accounts
- Producing quarterly management financial information pack for management and Trustees
- Working with the Head of Operations to identify and deliver substantial improvements to the Trusts financial systems, processes and outputs
- Dealing with ad hoc requests and providing general support to the Head of Operations
Essential skills and experience
- CCAB part qualified or fully qualified (ACA/ACCA/CIMA)
- At least 2 years demonstrable experience in a finance role, with responsibility for producing project/management/statutory accounts on a regular basis
- Experience of providing financial support/advice to non-finance staff
- Demonstrable knowledge, understanding and experience of working with a wide range of financial processes and systems
- Ability to work on own initiative, manage multiple workstreams, and work to tight deadlines under pressure
- Attention to detail
Desirable skills and experience
- Experience in Quick Books
- Fluent user of Excel
- Experience of dealing with large international donors such as the European Union, the UK Government (FCO/DFiD) and other similar organisations
- Understanding/experience of the charity sector and Charity SORP guidelines
Salary offered is in the range of £31,000 to £34,000, depending on experience. The Trust will also offer a pension contribution of 5% in addition to the annual salary.
The post-holder will be entitled to 25 days (in addition to public holidays)
The position is based at the Equal Rights Trust’s office in London.
