This is the full text (in French only) of the Civil Code enacted by Algeria. It was adopted on 14 November 1998 and has been in force since that date.
The Civil Code governs contracts, property rights, and conflicts of law. The Code is relevant to the right to non-discrimination and equality in several ways, including:
Article 33 stipulates that witnesses to official acts may be men or women at least 21 years old;
Article 40 states that all persons over 19 years of age, so long as they are mentally capable and have not otherwise been forbidden, exercise their full civil rights.
