Combating discrimination and promoting equality as a fundamental human right and a basic principle of social justice
Welcome to the Virtual Library on Equality. The Library's purpose is to systematise existing resources and serve as an educational tool on non-discrimination issues for a broad range of users. Here you will be able to find a variety of materials related to non-discrimination and equality, such as international, regional and national norms, case law, policy papers, academic and other articles. Publications by The Equal Rights Trust can also be found here. To facilitate your way through the complex and growing field of non-discrimination, the most important substantive issues are introduced by brief overviews created by The Equal Rights Trust. Patterns of discrimination and the current status of anti-discrimination legislation and policy in individual countries are presented in brief introductory reports.
In developing the Virtual Library on Equality, ERT has benefitted from a joint project with PILnet, an international organisation that advances human rights around the world by stimulating public interest advocacy and developing the institutions necessary to sustain it. Under this joint project, all materials previously hosted on PILnet’s Database on Anti Discrimination and Equality Law (DADEL) can now be accessed on this Virtual Library. PILnet and ERT are committed to work together to develop and expand the Virtual Library through joint research.
This is a work in progress. The Equal Rights Trust is currently working to make available relevant material and will endeavour to expand the Library and keep it up to date.
