Serbia

Our work in Serbia focused on the implementation of the Law on Prohibition of Discrimination, passed in 2009. We supported lawyers and activists to bring cases under the law and to press for amendments to other laws and policies to prevent discrimination.

Our work included:

  • Supporting strategic litigation to improve the interpretation and implementation of the Law on Prohibition of Discrimination;
  • Training 75 civil society activists on international standards on the rights to equality and non-discrimination and 15 journalists on combating discrimination and hate speech;
  • Increasing collaboration between civil society groups working on different discrimination issues, through convening an expert working group and a series of roundtables meetings.
